I currently have 2 open Postdoctoral Fellow positions in the Computer Science department at Boston College.  The positions are in the areas of machine learning, data science and/or statistics and Postdoctoral Fellows will work on one or more of the following projects:

  • Learning dynamics and detecting causal pathways in coupled online-offline systems (this is a MURI project in collaboration with researchers from UCLA, USC, UC Berkeley and University of Colorado)

  • Spatial-temporal point process modeling for public health

  • Fairness-aware machine learning in criminal justice

  • Synthetic control methods with applications to criminal justice

The candidate is expected to publish in machine learning or data mining conference proceedings, or in journals related to public health, criminal justice and statistics. The candidate may also be invited to supervise research projects led by undergraduates. Teaching is not required unless requested by the candidate.

Starting Date

The position begins immediately upon the availability of the candidate. The position will be for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year.

Qualifications

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in computer science, information science, statistics, mathematics, or in a social science with significant training in data science.  Candidates should also have prior experience and publications in at least one of the following areas: causal inference, point processes, spatial-temporal or graph neural networks, fairness-aware machine learning, or modeling the dynamics of social media.  Candidates should also be proficient in programming in Python, R and/or Matlab.
